EXCRETORY SYSTEM

Suggest what is right, oppose what is wrong; what you think, speak; try to satisfy yourself, and not others; and if you are not popular, you will at least be respected; popularity lasts but a day, respect will descend as a heritage to your children.

SMOKING IS ONE OF THE LEADING CAUSES OF STATISTICS!!

CANCER FACTS--Cancer is not limited to any one system. It incorporates all of the anatomy units of study. Word process each section and turn it in as you finish. The expected time frame is seen in the right column.

I, II, and III. General Cancer--answer the questions found on the page. Use the Cancer Booklets given in class.

IV. Cancer Cell Lab--look at various organs and compare to those with cancer. What differences do you see? Could you tell that the tissue contained cancerous cells?

V. Tobacco and Smoking

A. You are asked to speak to a group of young people (ages10-15) who are smokers. It is your "mission" to convince them to quit smoking. Use statistics (by state, race, sex, age of starting, etc), chemcials found in tobacco, as well as short term and long term health risks as a means of convincing thm to quit. Include three USEFUL website addresses within the paper.

B. In a separate paragraph, tell me why you think that all this info will or will not have an effect on their smoking or chewing habits.

This section should be wordprocessed with a title for your presentation.

Check List--total 50 pts.

  • 3 sources within paper = 15 pts
  • statistics = 15 pts
  • well-written paper = 20 pts

VI. Heimlich Maneuver

A. Go to the Heimlick Institute and print the page on how to do this maneuver. In paragraph form, summarize how you could save someone from choking. How is it different for a child or if you were alone and choking?

B. Other than choking, it what ways can this maneuver be beneficial?
