COURSE DESCRIPTION

This laboratory course is for serious students with average or better ability who are interested in learning about the various parts of the human body and their functions. Lab activities will include examination and/or dissection of animal organs similar to human organs. The student should have average reading ability and have successfully completed Biology I with a "C" or above at the high school level.

RATIONALE

The human anatomy class is an elective class designed for students interested in medically related fields or who are interested in extending their practical knowledge about the body in which they live. Through the study of the human body, students develop an understanding of who they are, what makes their bodies work, and what happens when their bodies malfunction. Decision making and responsibility are stressed. By learning about themselves, students develop an understanding of the effects of their choices and decisions. Students are directed toward making positive choices and decisions about their bodies through authentic life activities and assessments.

COURSE GOALS

Students will:

  • Become more aware of the interactions between the various parts of the body and how ether are controlled, regulated and coordinated.
  • Have a better understanding of the life processes and how the body maintains these processes
  • Develop some concepts and knowledge which may be important and useful in normal life activities
