PRINT PORTFOLIO

A portfolio is a collection of your work that demonstrates what you know and can do. Put together a portfolio on your work on forensic prints. Some of your work will be accomplished in class as you do the labs. The portfolio will be placed in a three ringed binder and organized in the following manner:

A. Title Page--contains creative title, inserted graphics, name, date, teacher and hour

B. Table of Contents--list with page numbers

C. Modus Operandi--Fingerprint Cards

  1. Background information on how to fingerprint and method used to obtain primary identification number. (Not more than one type written page.
  2. 10 cards of those not in forensic science classes.
  3. Each card followed by a page showing the fingerprint patterns and the math used in obtaining the primary identification number.

D. Fingerprint Minutia

  1. Paragraph on the various types of fingerprint minutia. This could include diagrams.
  2. Your fingerprint enlargement with minutia labeled.

E. Lifted Prints

  1. Background information on methods for lifting prints, especially the ones that will be displayed in your portfolio. (Not more than two type written page.)
  2. Best print lifted from glass with the following data typed on the page:
    Person’s Name
    Finger
    Pattern
    Date Lifted
    Glass Source/Location
    Method of Lifting (black powder, white powder, etc.)
  3. Best print lifted from metal with the following data typed on the page:
    Person’s Name
    Finger
    Pattern
    Date Lifted
    Metal Source/Location
    Method of Lifting (black powder, white powder, etc.)
  4. Best print lifted from a dark surface with the following data typed on the page:
    Person’s Name
    Finger
    Pattern
    Date Lifted Surface/Location
    Method of Lifting

5. Best print obtained from a chemical reaction (ninhydrin, iodine silver nitrate, or cyanoacrylate) with the following data typed on the page. NOTE: this print may be a photograph, scan or the actual print. You may do more than one for extra.

F. Other Types of Prints

  1. Insert three tracings of retinal blood vessel patterns. In a following paragraph, discuss the use or possible us of retinal patterns for security. In a second paragraph, based on your "experience", what is your opinion on the use of these patterns?
  2. Your lip prints. Label the print with person’s name, lip type, width of lips, height of top and bottom lips. On the same page, discuss in one good paragraph the use lip prints for criminal convictions. In a second paragraph, based on your “experience”, what is your opinion on the use of lip prints?
  3. Include your teeth marks, ear print and palm print. Following these prints, discuss in one good paragraph one of their uses for criminal convictions. In a second paragraph, based on your "experience", what is your opinion on using any or all of these in court.
  4. Insert 5 different shoe prints of the same type of shoe (i.e.. tennis shoes, high heels). Label with the following information:
    Manufacturer
    Specific name of shoe

    Size
    Year Purchased
    Accidentals--circle the characteristics that make this shoe unique

G. BONUS

  1. Your baby foot scanned.
  2. Your foot print now.
  3. A paragraph comparing identifying marks between the two footprints (baby &now)

H. REFERENCE PAGE--minimum of 5, written correctly

 

A scoring guide will be given in class. Please, be sure to fill in what you think you deserve and place the guide at the back of your portfolio.
