PHS Science Department

Overview

We offer courses that develop understanding of key concepts that help students make sense of life sciences, Earth and space sciences, and physical sciences. Expectations for high school sciences blend core ideas with science and engineering practices and crosscutting concepts to support students in developing usable knowledge that can be applied across the science disciplines. We focus on several scientific practices in all courses, including developing and using models, planning and conducting investigations, analyzing and interpreting data, using mathematical and computational thinking, and constructing explanations and using these practices to demonstrate an understanding of the core ideas.

Additional Science Programs Available to Students

Students can gain a lot of experience by participating in an internship, program, or workshop that can help put their knowledge and skill sets into action.  Erin Mulanax keeps the database of different opportunities updated.  To search for programs go to https://phs.psdr3.org/scienceprograms

Science Tutoring

Science help is available after school in the library or throughout the school day, but it is in different locations depending on the staff member allocated to the time slot.
