Description  

The Pattonville Theatre Department produces a play during the fall semester and a musical in the spring semester. For each theatre production, there are opportunities to be in the cast, crews, or serve as a stage manager.  Stay tuned to the announcements and look for flyers in the halls for information.

Members of Anime Club view and discuss anime shows and movies. Anime themes, characters, storylines, and trivia are reviewed. (non-MSHSAA)

Description  

Art Club is a club open to all PHS students (whether or not they are currently enrolled in an Art course). Students have the opportunity to use a variety of art materials in a self-directed environment. We meet every week. For students who are enrolled in an Art class it is an opportunity to catch up on projects that need extra time to complete or for students who have been absent and need additional  time out of class to get back on track.

Description  

Asian Cultural Club is geared towards building up the Asian community within Pattonville, while also showcasing our culture to those who are interested. We aid students in volunteer opportunities, support them in their interests and passions, and provide them with experiences and opportunities to grow as leaders, helpers, and more. Everyone is welcome!

We will meet during contact time and biweekly after school on Fridays. Meetings during contact time focus on aiding the Asian community in Pattonville and after school meetings on Friday are open to everyone of all ethnicities. 

Description  

Current enrollment in a class required for some groups. 

• All students who have been in band prior to enrolling at Pattonville High School are encouraged to audition for membership into the Pride of Pattonville Marching Band. Members of the marching band will have many opportunities to perform in parades, at football games and in competitions. Some of the recent venues include Busch Stadium for a Cardinals game and the Edward Jones Dome. Students who are not enrolled in the marching band may rehearse and perform in a first-semester concert band. All band members (marching and concert) will be placed in a concert band for the second semester. In addition to the concerts on campus, members of these ensembles will have opportunities to participate in our volunteer Pep Band during the basketball season, the pit orchestra for the all-school musical, solo and small ensemble festivals, and concert band festivals around the country.
   

• Jazz Ensemble is a class offered to students who audition and obtain director approval. The Jazz Ensemble performs at on-campus concerts as well as a wide array of Pattonville School District activities and music festivals in Missouri and around the country. The Jazz Ensemble has performed in local jazz clubs, was invited to perform at a tribute concert for the late Maynard Ferguson and sponsors a jazz dinner dance each spring.
   

• The Jazz Band rehearses one night each week for no academic credit. The Jazz Band performs at on-campus concerts as well as a variety of Pattonville School District activities and music festivals around the country.
   

• Students entering Pattonville High School with prior playing experience on string instruments are encouraged to enroll in orchestra. Students will audition for the proper placement in one of the three orchestras. Orchestra members will be able to participate in suburban and state-level auditions and festivals. In addition, orchestra members may participate in a number of small ensemble performances throughout the Pattonville community.

BSAAC is an organization focused on school improvement. Students interested in becoming members need to already hold leadership positions as class/club officers or apply at the beginning of the school year. BSAAC members meet five times throughout the year with the Superintendent, a member of the Board of Education, and a PHS building administrator. Students interested in addressing Pattonville’s problems with our district leaders are encouraged to apply.

Description  

The Pattonville Bowling Club is open to all students of any skill level. The season runs from September – May. The cost of practice is free for club members, but there are registration and league fees. This is a USBC sanctioned high school league. Games are on Sundays against schools in the Saint Louis Area.

Description  

The cheerleading squads at Pattonville High School are an integral part of the extracurricular and athletic program. The squads are vital in the promotion of school spirit at sporting events. Football, soccer, basketball and wrestling receive the support of the cheerleaders. This activity not only channels enthusiasm and spirit in a constructive manner, but also gives participants a sense of pride and accomplishment in being part of the team. In addition, the cheerleaders receive many valuable and rewarding experiences that they will remember long after graduation. Regional and state competitions, as well as community appearances, are just some of things the cheer squad takes part in throughout the year. If you would like to be a cheerleader, then you must be prepared to work hard for your squad, teams, and your school.

All PHS students are invited to be members of chess club. We meet once a week after school to play chess. Participants also have the opportunity to participate in monthly tournaments. Each player must have a United States Chess Federation membership to participate in tournaments but this is not required to be a part of chess club! Players may join at any time!

Description  

The vocal music program at Pattonville High School offers the students many opportunities to belong to a performing group.

• Concert Choir: A classical-mixed choir open to all students with musical vocal ability.

• Treble Choir: Geared toward teaching treble voices and music.

• Swing/Chamber Chorus:  Open to students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grades and is a madrigal/show offering dance/pop and classical small ensemble music opportunities.

All three may perform in district and state competitions as a part of a choir, small ensemble member, or as a soloist.

Class credit may be earned for participation in Color Guard.

Students are able to earn a 0.5 elective credit by becoming a member of the Color Guard through tryouts in the spring. Those who can earn a spot on the squad must enroll in Color Guard as their first-hour class during the next fall semester. Members perform using the element of dance and various props including (but not limited to) flags, rifles, and sabers to music played by the marching band to enhance the visual effect of the marching band show at football games, marching competitions, parades, and pep assemblies.

Color Guard is a 1st Hour credited class. We practice at 6:45am-the end of 1st hour; Tuesdays from 5:45-8:45p.m., Thursdays 6-8 p.m. From July-October we practice and perform at football games and competitions. After competition season, the 1st hour class becomes an academic lab.

The Community Service Club is one of the few school clubs where a student can earn community service hours on the high school campus. The club recycles plastic and glass from the school hallways, and recycles paper from the teachers' and administrators' rooms and offices. In addition, we will have occasions to 'celebrate' our success in helping to create a more "Green" environment on our campus..

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.  Students will be engaged in activities that include competition, community service, and working with local businesses to gain insight into the world of marketing and entrepreneurship.  Competition occurs at the local, state, and national level every year. Description  

The Pattonville drill teams are an essential organization in the Pattonville community created to promote school spirit at home games and local events. The drill teams perform at all home football, soccer, and basketball games. The squads also perform at various events in the community representing the school at its finest. The Pattonville drill teams participate in summer camp, Lindbergh Yvonne Cole Invitational, and competitions through the Universal Dance Association. Members of drill team will cherish the commitment to their teams. Individual members come to realize the importance of teamwork as they build a lifetime of memories.

Educators Rising is an organization that provides opportunities to better prepare high school students for a career in education. Educators Rising provides passionate young people with hands-on experience, sustains their interest in the profession and helps them cultivate the skills they need to be successful educators. Students will complete two job shadowing opportunities and will choose the grade levels that they think they want to teach and observe those levels at different Pattonville schools. The mission of this club is: Educators Rising cultivates highly skilled educators by guiding young people on a path to becoming accomplished teachers, beginning in high school and extending through college and into the profession.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes is an interdenominational student-led Christian sports ministry to see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes. Our goal is to develop strong relationships with other Christian Athletes in our school. Come for food, fun, and fellowship.

Fiber Arts Club is a group of students interested in all fiber art activities including knitting, crocheting, hand sewing, kumihimo, etc. Students of all skill levels including absolute beginner are welcome. The Gender Sexuality Alliance (formerly Gay/Straight Alliance) is open to all PHS students. We talk about topics such as gender identity, marriage equality and discrimination. We also try to educate ourselves and the broader school community and help to make sure that all students feel safe being themselves at PHS. We actively work to stop bullying and harassment of LGBTQ+ students. The meetings are lead by student elected officers and meetings occur every week.

Description  

The goal of the Girls in Physics club is to create a space for girls interested in physics related fields to find community and to encourage more girls to explore physics-related opportunities. Throughout the semester, we will explore careers with guest speakers, work on fun projects and labs, explore content not covered in class, and outreach to the school community through science fairs or demonstrations. Open to all girls interested in physics, regardless of if they have taken physics classes or not.

Description  

The Green Team is open to student members who have an interest in environmental sustainability. The Green Team is responsible for collecting recyclable materials from hallways, classrooms and administrative offices. Our mission is to spread the word about sustainable practices on Pattonville's campus and to support the Pattonville "Green Ribbon Schools" Initiative. 

The Green Team will also volunteer in the broader St. Louis area at select events throughout the year, including the annual PHS Electronics Recycling Drive. We will hold annual Earth Day celebrations to spread awareness about personal impact on the environment as well as other sustainability events.

Participation in the Green Team Recyclables Collection Project will count toward the required number of community service hours to graduate and also qualifies as Science National Honor Society community service hours.

HOSA provides students an opportunity to promote health care careers and prepares students to successfully pursue a health career.  Students are taught to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality healthcare by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science education students, therefore helping students to meet the needs of the community.

Description  

The Un-he( a )rd is a student-edited literary magazine that features student artwork, poetry, fiction, creative essays and lyrics.  A student editorial board conducts blind reviews of submissions, selects the work that appears in each issue, designs the layout and produces an issue at the end of year.  Students interested in becoming members of the editorial board should see Mrs. Raymond in A214. Description  

In Math Club, students will compete in both individual & group mathematics competitions.  Students will discuss problem-solving strategies and have many opportunities to improve public speaking and interpersonal skills as they present problems and interact with their peers. The Math Club will also hold the Pi-Day drive on or around March 14. Students and staff have the opportunity to purchase a slice of pie at lunch for $1.00. In the past, proceeds from the drive have been donated to causes in or around Pattonville.

The Pattonville Mock Trial Team competes in the Missouri High School Mock Trial Competition. Students act as witnesses and lawyers to put on criminal and civil trials against teams from other schools. Listen to announcements for information

The Muslim Student Association is a student led group which discusses current issues and events in the news and society that affect Muslim students.  The group also participates in community service activities and collaborates with other MSA organizations in Missouri. A student does not have to be Muslim to join.

Description  

Pattonville’s National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is a Chapter of a National organization that focuses on scholarship in visual art as well as promoting art in our school and community. NAHS is open to students in grades 9-12 who are enrolled in or have taken at least one art class, have a B average or higher in art classes, have a 2.5 GPA or higher overall, and who meet minimum meeting attendance and art related service hours outside of the school day.  Seniors earn a rainbow-colored honor cord.

Pattonville's National English Honor Society is open to students in grades 10-12 who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and an English GPA of 3.0. PEHS members have access to national scholarships. Members will have a service requirement.

Description  

Pattonville's National Honor Society (NHS) is a chapter of the national organization (NHS) that was established to recognize outstanding high school students. NHS serves to recognize students who have demonstrated excellence in four main areas including scholarship, leadership, service, and character. NHS is open to students in grades 11-12 and who have a cumulative GPA of a 3.5 or higher. (weighted or simple) NHS students are also required to complete 20 service hours through NHS sponsored activities.

The Non-Partisan Club has been designed to give students an opportunity to discuss current topics in government and politics, both local and national, in an environment that is welcoming to all political backgrounds. Students will engage in guided discussion, listen to guest speakers on occasion and reflect on how they can be more involved in their community.

Description  

The Orchestras at PHS provide numerous musical opportunities for students with three or more years of playing experience on violin, viola, cello, or bass.  Each of our three orchestras have at least five performances a year, perform in the St. Louis Large Group Ensemble Festival, and travel to out-of-town competitions and festivals.  Students can earn awards and scholarships through their involvement in the orchestra program. Any student who has experience playing a stringed instrument--even those who have taken some time away from orchestra--are welcome! 

Description  

(Peer Assistance and Leadership) is a class for students interested in a leadership role in the high school. The focus of the program is to help incoming freshmen with the transition to high school. PALs are assigned to a freshman academic lab where they lead activities that are designed to help them improve study skills, communication and decision making. PALs also tutor the freshmen as needed. Additional activities with the PALs class include organizing the Wheelchair Basketball Game, the 8th Grade Assembly and the New Student Transition Day in the summer. PALs will also be assigned a middle school Pen Pal that they will communicate with throughout the year. The PALs students not only help others, but also learn a lot about themselves and how to be better leaders and role models. This class is a 2 hour commitment for an entire school year--the PALs class and a freshman academic lab. Students are chosen based on an application process.

This class is accountable for publication of the student-run newspaper (Pirate Press) and will maintain the journalism website (PattonvilleTODAY.com). Students will be responsible for the writing, photography, design, business and publicity for the newspaper and website. Outside class assignments will be required.

Description  

Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists was started in 1926 "for the purpose of encouraging and recognizing individual student achievement in journalism and scholastic publication." The following information is from their official website. Since its founding, school charters have been granted to more than 11,300 high schools in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and 29 foreign countries. Media advisers in chartered schools are eligible to recommend outstanding high school journalism students for membership in Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society. Members of Quill and Scroll Honor Society must be chosen from students enrolled in the high school who, at the time of their recommendation, meet the following requirements: They must be of sophomore, junior or senior classification. They must have the equivalent of a B grade average, or be in the upper third of their class in general scholastic standing, either for the year of their election or for the cumulative total of all high school work. They must have done superior work in some phase of journalism or school media work. They may be staffers of a magazine, newspaper, yearbook, news organization, online site or radio/television station at the school, or one conducted by an external organization.They must be recommended by the supervisor or by the committee governing the media. They must be approved by the Quill and Scroll Executive Director.

The PHS Renaissance Club recognizes outstanding student academic achievement and character.  We also promote school spirit with Jersey Days, when varsity athletes honor staff members. Some activities include: The Dessert Bar, Improvement Luncheon, MVP Awards, Taste of Pattonville, Field Day, Scholar Athlete Program, t-shirts and lockers signs, and more. All students are welcome to join, but students must qualify for an incentive in order to miss class to work at that event.

Description  

Rho Kappa is the National Social Studies Honor Society. Our goal is to encourage an interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for the social studies. We are heavily involved in the annual Veteran's Day Appreciation breakfast and program as well as other activities throughout the school year.

Description  

Pattonville Robotics Club is an inclusive club that anyone who has an interest in robotics, engineering, technology or computer science can join. Even if you don't have much experience or knowledge, we're willing to teach you! We participate in FIRST Tech Challenge, which is an organization that gives us a new challenge, or game, each year. No, we don't battle our bots, but rather, have fun and fair matches that this year includes delivering game pieces to different places depending on the color and placement of the piece. As a team, we build and program a robot throughout the year to compete at several competitions, lasting from September to March. We aren't a sport, but we are sport-ish. We meet twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays after school) and also the occasional Saturday.  Attendance and commitment are expected, but our primary goal is to have fun and learn!

Pattonville students can compete for awards, prizes and scholarships at the St. Louis Science Fair, which is presented by the Academy of Science-St. Louis. The Academy of Science describes student projects as: "Inquiry-based learning at its best"–St. Louis students follow their passion as they explore the word they live in. Science Fair is the perfect platform to support and showcase classroom science and engineering and helps students meet the 2017 Show-Me Standards science expectations for each grade level. Research demonstrates the value of project-based learning for a stem-literate workforce of the future.

Description  

The 55th verse is proudly PHS' own slam poetry team. We aim to represent all that makes our school unique by raising the voices of our students through the art of spoken word poetry. The 55th Verse meets monthly to write, workshop, and practice performing spoken word poems. Our team works in anticipation for writer's week in the spring when we hold a poetry slam for all to enjoy. Whether an experienced poet or a curious beginner, all are encouraged to join the 55th Verse and find their voice through poetry.

Spanish Club is a place where students currently enrolled in Spanish can come and have fun! It is designed to be a casual environment for students to practice their Spanish and enjoy culture. We engage in crafts, cooking, and dancing!

Description  

The Pattonville Speech & Debate Team competes in speech, debate, and interpretation events at tournaments throughout the school year and hosts a tournament in December. The team is a great opportunity to make friends, to discuss issues you care about, and to improve your confidence, critical thinking, and public speaking. Competitions are on Fridays and Saturdays between October and February. Student Council is a student-driven organization focused on the needs of the student body. Stuco is responsible for major school/community events like: Homecoming, Spirit Week, Special Olympics swim meets and Young Athletes Programs, Dodgeball Tournaments, and various other in-school activities. Students of all grade levels are required to apply for membership and meet bi-monthly. Officer and leadership positions are available to dedicated students.

Student Quest is a nondenominational Christian Club that meets each Monday after school.  The club has a Core Team of students that with the help of Core Advisor, Linnette Jensen, plans each Monday's agenda.This club is a great place for fellow Christians with the same core values to develop friendships and talk about important issues. The meetings include student-led devotionals, fun games, guest speakers and snacks. The club also plans get togethers outside of the school week and during the summer. Student Quest is involved in helping Operation Backpack and other ministries in their community. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Description  

The Tabletop Game Club (TGC) is an after school club where every student is welcome. The TGC promotes creativity, critical thinking, and social interaction. While involved in the TGC, students will use their creativity to invent fantastical characters in role playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons (D&D), Pathfinder 2nd Edition (P2E), Monster of the Week (MoTW), or any other roleplaying game.  This club will primarily focus on D&D, but may branch out into other games if there is enough interest. D&D is a tabletop roleplaying game where players create adventures and embark on epic quests filled with friends, rivals, loot, and dragons. D&D has two roles: player and dungeon master (DM). The DM creates engaging stories, interesting combat encounters, and compelling villains. If any experienced players are willing to DM, they are more than welcome to. If not, Ms. Avery will DM and/or train another player to take on the role.  All players are welcome, whether you have never played or have played for 10 years! The only requirement is that you bring your imagination.

Description  

The International Thespian Society is the world’s largest honor society for theatre students (part of the Educational Theatre Association) who excel in technical fields and performance in their high school theatre program. Membership in Pattonville Thespian Troupe #1934 is earned through involvement with Pattonville Theatre Department productions.

Official meetings are once a month during Contact Time as students are in the play, musical, and one-acts after-school. Additional opportunities are available and communicated at meetings.

Description  

Triple A is a club that focuses on helping African American students achieve in academics through tutoring and post-secondary planning. We encourage students to enroll in advanced courses including the areas of Math and Science. Students develop leadership skills through event planning and teamwork. Students broaden their horizons by going on field trips, networking with community leaders, participating in community service, and attending workshops.

Description  

This class is accountable for publication of the student-run yearbook (Echo) and will maintain the journalism website (PattonvilleTODAY.com). Students will be responsible for the writing, photography, design, business and publicity for the yearbook and website. Outside class assignments will be required.

Meeting Information 

This is considered an "Activity for Credit", so students who enroll in the class meet during class time and have after-school responsibilities.

Description  

Five rising juniors are selected annually to participate in Focus St. Louis, Youth Leadership Academy. The program focuses on the complexity of fixing flawed systems affecting residents of the St. Louis area, such as the criminal justice system, health care, education, discrimination and poverty.  Although staff can recommend students for application, students are encouraged to apply even without teacher recommendation. Students with solid grades and no history of chronic discipline issues will be interviewed for participation. Selected students MUST attend all YLSL activities, including an overnight retreat in September and monthly outings during the school day and on Saturday mornings.

Meeting Information 

Field trips, to various locations across St. Louis, are held twice a month- either Tuesday/Friday and Saturday. Meetings for the research project are once a month in either D111 or the library. The Research Project Presentations/Graduation is held the end of April.
