A+ Program
The State of Missouri A+ Schools Program is an initiative that allows eligible students to attend a Missouri community college or public tech school tuition free.
General fees are also paid. However, textbooks and other major specific fees are not paid. A+ funding does not cover ANY tuition or fees at 4 year colleges and universities. Funding is not guaranteed and is determined by the State of MO legislature each year.
A+ SCHOOLS PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
- Submit an A+ enrollment form (on PowerSchool student or parent portal)
- Attend an A+ designated high school for 2 years
- 2.5 Cumulative (non-weighted) GPA by graduation
- 95% Attendance rate (cumulative for all 4 years) by graduation
- Have record of good citizenship including the avoidance of alcohol/drugs
- Perform 50 hours of tutoring within the PSD (pre approval required)
- Proficient on the Algebra 1 EOC (or have a qualifying score on the Math ACT)
- Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (not required for high school A+ eligibility--required to receive the scholarship at the community college)
Enroll in A+ on the PowerSchool portal: Log into PowerSchool and click "Forms" and then "A+ Agreement"**Students must be enrolled by October 1st of senior year
A+ Tutoring Guidelines:
**You must be enrolled in the A+ Program BEFORE you can begin tutoring. Enroll in your PowerSchool portal OR pick up an enrollment form in the A+ office (E200) .
**Applying to tutor is NOT an application to enroll in the A+ Program**

All students must do the ON-LINE TUTOR TRAINING prior to beginning tutoring.

After you do the on-line tutor training, you need to print out the last page and turn into the A+ Office before beginning your tutoring.

All tutoring must be done at a PSD school under the supervision of a PSD teacher.

All tutoring must be approved by the A+ office.

Students must provide their own transportation to & from the tutoring site.

All tutoring must be documented and verified by the cooperating teacher.

Hours must be tracked on the GOLD A+ tutoring sheet.

All tutoring must be completed by MAY 1st of the student's senior year.
Complete the A+ tutoring training and then make a plan for completing the 50 hours.
*50 hours of A+ tutoring counts for your PHS community service graduation requirement.

School Year Opportunities
Job Shadowing: 12.5 hours of an approved Job Shadow experience can count toward A+ tutoring. See Mrs. Krohn if you are interested in this oppt. (Students must arrange the Job Shadow-but prior approval is required).
PSD Elem/Middles schools: Contact a teacher at a PSD school to arrange for tutoring in their classroom. After getting approval from the teacher, contact Mrs. Krohn before beginning. *All teacher emails are on the school's website on the PSD website.
Holman Middle School Pirate Academy: Tutors are needed on PHS C days to finish out the school day and remain for the 3pm-4pm homework help hour. Contact school counselor Sara Hellberg (shellberg@psdr3.org)
PSD EL Family Nights: Drummond Elem on Tues/Thurs 6:00-8:00pm. Contact Jezel McCall (jmccall@psdr3.org) Classes will begin in mid September. *Spots are limited

5th Grade Camp Counselor--25 hours count toward A+. Applications will be sent to PHS in January. Camp will be in May. *(Please consider EOCs, AP Tests, Band/Choir/Orchestra evening performances before applying.)
PHS A+ tutors are placed in lower level classes in various departments during the school day. 11th & 12th grade students can apply to be placed as a PHS A+ tutor in place of a class or ac lab. PHS A+ tutors earn 25 hours/semester. (This is a non-credited class).
*Reminder-if you participate in any MSHAA sponsored athletics or activities, you must have 6 credited classes
Summer Opportunities
Summer Elementary Assistant: This role is designed for rising juniors or rising seniors who love the "hands-on" side of education and want to be the essential extra set of hands that makes our classroom run successfully.
Location: Drummond Elementary
Dates: Weeks of June 8, June 15, and June 22
Hours: 7:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (Full days preferred; half-day shifts may be considered for the right candidate)
