Two students recognized for their submissions in the Congressional App Challenge

Two students were recognized by Congressperson Ann Wagner for their hard work and ingenuity in the 2nd District of Missouri’s Congressional App Challenge of 2021. They are Pattonville High School sophomore Sai Dorasani and Pattonville Heights Middle School eighth grader Parker Hasenkamp.

The judging team from LaunchCode chose Dorasani’s Envo Recycle app as the second place winner. Hasenkamp participated in the competition submitting his GPA Calculator app.

The Congressional App Challenge is a national competition highlighting the value of computer science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education. Established by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2015, the Congressional App Challenge allows students from across the country to compete by creating and exhibiting their software application, or “app,” for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice. This competition is open to all students, working individually or in teams of up to four, who meet the eligibility requirements, regardless of coding experience.

Students entering the competition must provide a video demo explaining their app and what they learned through this competition process, such as coding or graphic design. The submitted apps are judged by a panel of experts from the region and the winning app from each participating congressional district will be featured on the U.S. House of Representatives’ website and as part of a U.S. Capitol exhibit.
